The ATP and WTA tours have been busy in 2025 so far, with many iconic tournaments having already been and gone.

Currently on the agenda is the Italian Open, where the men are competing for ATP Masters 1000 success and the women are doing the same at their WTA 1000 equivalent.

World number ones Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka are both involved, with the former taking part in his first event since his three-month ban.

The latter meanwhile is chasing further success on the WTA Tour having just triumphed at the Madrid Open.

And despite retiring long ago, former world number ones Tracy Austin and Jim Courier have been keeping tabs on the tennis world.

Austin and Courier prefer Madison Keys’s year over Sabalenka’s, with the pair now also sharing their take on the most beautiful tennis courts they have ever played at.

Speaking on the Tennis Channel Live Podcast, Austin said: “I have never played at Monte Carlo Country Club, so therefore I am going to go with Wimbledon.

“I think Wimbedlon, the ivy outside, the history you soak up, all the green grass. It is absolutely gorgeous. But Monte Carlo with the blue and red clays also beautiful.”

Jim Courier says why Monte Carlo Masters is ‘spectacular’

The Monte Carlo Masters recently took place on the ATP Tour, with Carlos Alcaraz emerging victorious in Monaco last month.

John Isner thinks the WTA would love a Monte Carlo event, with the tournament providing one of the most iconic and stunning venues in all of sport.

And that is certainly the view held by Courier, who said: “Monte Carlo is spectacular because of what you get to see from the stands.

“Other courts I think are set in beautiful places, some of the smaller clay courts set up in the mountains. Kitzbuhel, spectacular. Also Bastad up on the Swedish coast, those are pretty sights as well.

“But I don’t think any top Monte Carlo in terms of fan experience, to be able to see the Med as you’re watching the best players in the Masters 1000.”
