Brush fires ignited across Southern California on Friday, April 3, with a blaze in Riverside County already growing to more than 2,500 acres.
It comes as the region faces gusty winds on April 3, with some wind advisories in effect through Saturday, April 4, according to the National Weather Service.
The fast-moving Springs Fire east of Moreno Valley grew to 2,848 acres as of 3:20 p.m., according to Cal Fire. It was first reported at about 11 a.m., and the fire has prompted evacuation orders and road closures in the area, reported the Desert Sun, which is part of the USA TODAY Network.
Far northwest of that fire is one in Los Angeles County called the Crown Fire.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department reported around 2 p.m. that firefighters are on scene of a brush fire at North Crown Valley Road and Soledad Canyon Road in Acton. It’s at 280 acres “with a low rate of spread,” and evacuation orders and warnings have been issued, the L.A. County Fire Department said.
The L.A. County Fire Department said firefighters arrived at the brush fire at 11:23 a.m., with the blaze at approximately 80 acres then.
The Crown Fire was reported to be 20% contained per the latest containment status, the L.A. County Fire Department said in an email to USA TODAY just after 3:30 p.m. There have been no reported injuries or damage to structures, the L.A. County Fire Department said.

Numerous evacuation orders and warnings are in effect as of 3 p.m. April 3.
A list of which zones are under such orders and warnings can be viewed online on CalFire’s webpage for the Springs Fire. Residents of the area can visit Riverside County Emergency Management Department’s website to enter their address to find their zone.
An evacuation shelter has opened up at Valley View High School, 13135 Nason St., Moreno Valley, according to CalFire.

Is there a fire near me? Drift smoke advisory issued
According to the Cal Fire and Riverside County Fire Department’s joint social media account, a drift smoke advisory was issued, alerting Southern Californians that the Springs Fire is “putting off lots of drift smoke that can be seen and smelt” in the surrounding area, including Riverside, Jurupa Valley, Menifee, Wildomar and Lake Elsinore.
