A TRAINSPOTTING fan placed a plaque in tribute to a famed bar scene from the film on the wrong pub.
The mystery movie buff hailed hardman Francis Begbie — played by Robert Carlyle, 64 — with the official looking blue heritage-style honour.

It says on the wall of The Volley boozer in Edinburgh’s Leith: “Francis Begbie star of Trainspotting glassed some lassie’s face at this spot 23 February 1996.”
But although the scene was set at the bar it was actually filmed in what was then the Crosslands pub in the west end of Glasgow.
The misplaced plaque refers to Begbie throwing a pint glass over his shoulder and it smashing into a woman’s face, after he boasts about battering a punter with a pool cue.
It is embossed with an Edinburgh City Council logo.

The Volley’s manager Jack More, 23, said: “It wasn’t us.
“I was walking home one night and I caught it with the corner of my eye.
“Someone has just put it there.
“I have no idea who. It’s a mystery.”

A Trainspotting fan said: “It’s one of the most iconic scenes in the film but everyone knows it wasn’t shot inside The Volley.”
Tour guide Paul Stewart provides a Trainspotting tour in Edinburgh.
He said: “It wasn’t filmed there – it was filmed in Glasgow.
“In the book it’s a bar in Rose Street in Edinburgh.
“The Auld Hundred was the only pub with a balcony in Rose Street, so I’m assuming it was supposed to be in there.
“It was based on a real life event.”
