This looks like a good race, but from a handicapping point of view, it’s hard to see past the claims of POWER FIZZ. He has shown much improved form this year, opening his account at Newcastle before proving himself ahead of his mark when following up on handicap debut at Newmarket last month.
He lost little in defeat against a promising type at Goodwood on Saturday, too, beaten only a head and pulling clear of the remainder. Power Fizz races from the same mark turned out quickly (will be 4 lb higher in future races) and looks the one to beat.
Philanthropist showed a tidy turn of foot to make a winning comeback at Southwell and is another player bidding for the hat-trick.
Some nice-looking newcomers on paper, but RUBY’S ANGEL was well supported for her debut at Newmarket at the Craven meeting and she showed plenty to work on.
She is an athletic sort by a first-season sire who has made a fast start and she shouldn’t be long before going one place better. She shows signs of inexperience at times but is likely to be all the better for that initial experience.
Stardinia also displayed enough on her debut to make her of interest, with Supreme Diamond and Society Kiss perhaps the pick of the newcomers.
Those with previous experience don’t set the bar too high in this fillies’ maiden, so it looks primed for a newcomer, and the Charlie Appleby-trained SPIRITED STYLE is taken to come out on top.
She is the second foal out of a high-class mare who won the Nassau Stakes, Prix Marcel Boussac and Prix de l’Opera and represents a yard who have an excellent record with three-year-old newcomers.
The Gosden stable holds a strong hand with El Budoor making the most appeal before market clues, while Wonder Star can be expected to leave her autumn debut run well behind.
AKKADIAN THUNDER caught the eye on several occasions last season, and did so once again on his first crack at this trip when returning to action at Leicester recently.
He is on a good mark and shades preference ahead of the hat-trick seeking Dorney Lake, who got the better of Kodi Lion at Doncaster last time and is taken to uphold that form, despite meeting that rival on 2 lb worse terms here. Warm Spell also enters calculations.
Already a three-time winner on all-weather since the turn of the year, TUCO SALAMANCA looked extremely unlucky not to go very close when fourth on Finals Day at Newcastle three weeks ago, getting no sort of run before finishing with a flourish to secure third spot.
He’s clearly still on a workable mark and still unexposed as a sprinter, and with all-weather form usually translating well to the straight course at Newmarket, he’s taken to get his head back in front. Corolla Point, Vocal Legend and Kiniro are a trio of others with plenty to recommend them, too.
A number of these bring potential to the table. But it could pay to side with BULLETIN, who has been on the up since going handicapping, opening his account on reappearance at Southwell, and he improved further in defeat on turf debut at Epsom last time.
He still looks on a handy mark having been raised 3 lb in the weights and looks one to follow. The Trickster is feared most on the back of a promising reappearance at Newmarket in second, with improving pair Niminy Piminy and Troy Story also firmly in the picture in an intriguing contest.
ORCHESTRA improved on his recent efforts on the Flat when resuming winning ways in this sphere over this trip at Kempton last month, seeing his race out in good style from the favourite on his first start for eight weeks.
The handicapper may have taken a chance raising him just 3 lb in the weights and remains unexposed at this trip on the Flat. James Owen’s Rogue Tornado arrives on the back of a good spell on the Flat and is second choice ahead of Russian Rumour for in-form Jonathan Portman.
