Coronation Street fans admit they felt “baffled” and like they had “missed” an episode after Debbie Webster appeared back on the cobbles after her time in prison.

Over the last few months, viewers have been left devastated as fan-favourite Debbie Webster took the wrap for son Carl Webster over the death of Billy Mayhew.

It happened during the epic Corriedale crossover as Carl drove after drinking, desperate to get away after his true nature had been exposed to his loved ones.

Since then, Debbie started to struggle with her dementia as she spent time inside, but relied heavily on former neighbour Lou Michaelis who was her support system during her time in prison as Debbie awaited to hear whether her appeal would be accepted.

During Sunday’s (April 5) installment, it started with Debbie Webster at the precinct park enjoying some fresh air on the swings. It then cut to Gemma asking Kevin how it felt having Debbie home, to which he admitted he’s been giving her space to spend time with Ronnie.

Speaking of Ronnie, he then entered the Rovers Return with worry plastered all over his face as he quizzed Kevin on Debbie’s whereabouts, adding that he hadn’t heard from her in two hours since she told him she was off to Freshco’s.

Back to Debbie, she was soon joined by Carl Webster who looked relieved that she’d been let free from prison. As viewers will recall, Debbie took the blame for Carl over Billy Mayhew’s death in the Corriedale crash after he swapped seats with her.

Feeling guilty that she had hidden being his mother his whole life, she took the wrap even when her loved ones tried to make her see sense. Soon, Carl was back to his old tricks and claimed that Fiona was demanding more money from him – ten grand to be exact.

Debbie looked hurt that it always comes back to money with Carl, but agreed to pay off his debts before Ronnie entered the room. Debbie managed to appeal her sentence due to her diagnosis of early onset dementia.

While viewers were pleased to see her back on the cobbles where she belongs, others expressed their confusion and felt as though they’d missed an episode.

In the lead up to Sunday night, Debbie was still in prison chatting away to Lou Michaelis about her upcoming appeal, before it then cut to her freedom in the latest installment.

We end with Debbie in prison on Friday & open tonight’s with her on the swings.”
