Reunited Manchester band Puressence have announced their biggest ever headline show after a triumphant comeback to the live music scene in 2024. And they will be joined by fellow Manc favourites The Chameleons.

Following a wave of sold-out reunion shows over the past two years, Puressence are now preparing to step into what is being billed as their most ambitious chapter yet – with a monumental hometown performance at Castlefield Bowl on Thursday, July 2.

The special show will mark 30 years since the release of their seminal debut album – PURESSENCE a record that first introduced the band’s unmistakable blend of soaring emotion and dark, atmospheric intensity, and laid the foundations for one of Manchester’s most loved bands.

Set against the industrial skyline of the city that shaped them, the open-air event at Castlefield Bowl will see Puressence perform to up to 8,000 fans, making it their largest headline show to date.

Joining them as very special guests will be The Chameleons – fellow architects of Manchester’s darker, more atmospheric sound.

A statement released today about the shows states: “Few pairings feel as natural: both bands have long occupied that space where melody meets mood, where intensity is built not just through volume, but through texture, tension, and emotional depth.

“It’s a meeting of kindred spirits—two bands whose music has consistently resonated beneath the surface of the mainstream while shaping the city’s sonic identity in profound ways.”

It continues: “For over three decades, Puressence have carved out a singular space in British music – where raw emotion meets towering, cinematic sound. With echoes of Manchester’s lineage yet a voice entirely their own, they fuse sweeping intensity with a dark melodic undercurrent that resonates long after the final note.”Fronted by the unmistakable voice of James Mudriczki, alongside Kevin Matthews, Lowell Killen, and Anthony Szuminski, the band first formed in Failsworth have built a fiercely loyal following – from their spiritual home in Manchester to sold-out audiences across Europe, particularly Greece.

Along the way, they have shared stages with Depeche Mode, Iggy Pop, and James, cementing their reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling live acts.

The gig on July 2 will be the opening night of the annual Sounds of the City series of shows at Castlefield Bowl. Previously announced shows in the run include The Ks on July 3, Hacienda Classical on July 4, Wet Leg on July 8, Johnny Marr on July 9, The Streets on July 10 and 11 and The Sex Pistols on July 12.
