Tributes have been paid to a beloved father who died days after being hit by a car in Leigh. James Kennedy, 47, was seriously injured when a car collided with him at around 8am on Thursday May 1 on Henry Street.

He was taken to hospital but died on May 3. His family are being supported by specialist officers at this time.

The driver, a woman in her 50s, stopped at the scene and was arrested at the time on suspicion of causing injury by careless driving. She has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

In a tribute issued via Greater Manchester Police, Mr Kennedy’s family said: “He was taken away from us too soon. James will be forever missed, but never forgotten.

“He was a loving son, brother, father and uncle. Forever in our hearts. Lots of love from all your family and friends. RIP James, till we meet again xx.”

Officers are continuing to ask for information as they carry out their enquiries into the incident.
