Tributes have poured in for a “wonderful” cat who lived at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium for 16 years before sadly dying, with some now calling for a statue in her honour.
Millie the cat, who was around 20 at the time of her death earlier this month, moved into the iconic Perry Barr athletics stadium in 2009.
The black and white feline “brought comfort” and “countless smiles” to “everyone who crossed her path”, said Serco Leisure, which manages the stadium.

Announcing Millie’s passing on April 4, the firm said: “Today we say goodbye to Millie – the much‑loved stadium cat who passed away after calling Alexander Stadium her home since 2009.
“From early‑morning greetings, to her gentle strolls past all our visitors, Millie brought comfort and countless smiles to everyone who crossed her path.

“She wasn’t just a cat, she was part of our team and part of our community. She will be deeply missed – but never be forgotten.”
Millie became a familiar and comforting face to both staff and visitors over the years.
She was well-known around the site and had a lasting impact on people, Serco said.
Generations of children at the Gymnastics and Martial Arts Centre (GMAC) saw her weekly, while members of the Perry Fitness Centre grew used to seeing her as part of their daily routines.
Staff often joked that Millie – who had a “big presence” around the stadium, especially during the 2022 Commonwealth Games – was one of the team.

Tributes poured in on social media following the announcement of her death.
Royston Horsley called for a statue of Millie to be built in her honour.
Mathew Brown wrote: “A wonderful cat who made everyone smile. She certainly made an impression at the CWG 2022.
“She was always part of the team and made the GMAC (and the entire site) her home. We were grateful for her choosing to spend time with us all. Thanks, Millie.”
Amelia McNally said: “You will always be known as Millie the GMAC cat. You made a wonderful reputation during the Commonwealth Games.
“Rest in peace sweet girl. You truly will be missed Millie.”
Angela Hill added: “I remember her walking around the gym a few months ago; everyone fussing her. She will be missed.”
