US President Donald Trump has threatened to dismiss Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell if he remains in office beyond the expiry of his term in May, escalating a long-running dispute between the White House and the central bank over monetary policy.
“Then I’ll have to fire him,” Trump told Fox Business in an interview. “I’ve held back firing him. I’ve wanted to fire him, but I hate to be controversial,” he added.
