A murder probe has been launched following the death of a man in the Midlands, police have confirmed.
The body of a man in his 50s was discovered in the River Leam at Victoria Park in Leamington, Warwickshire, on Wednesday, April 16.
Police were called to the scene at around 7.45am and the man was pronounced dead a short time later.
His next of kin have been informed of the sad news and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A post-mortem exam was carried out on the man’s remains and it was found that he died as a result of injuries consistent with an assault, police said.
Officers are now looking to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area on the evening of Tuesday, April 15, or morning of Wednesday, April 16.

Detective Inspector Gareth Unett said: “I understand this will be concerning for the local community, but I’d like to reassure them we have a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances that led to the man’s death.
“We’re carrying out a number of enquiries including checking CCTV and will have officers in and around the park providing reassurance. If you have questions, please speak to them.
“We’d ask anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area from late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning to come forward and share what they know.
“Finally, I’d ask people not to speculate online as this can cause unnecessary distress to the family and may impact our investigation.”
A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police added: “We’ve begun a murder investigation in connection with a man’s body being found in Leamington.
“We were called to Victoria Park shortly before 7.45am on Wednesday (16 April) after a member of the public saw a man in the river.
“Officers attended along with paramedics, however the man in his 50s had sadly died. His family has been informed, and they continue to be supported by specially-trained officers.
“A post-mortem carried out today (Thursday) established the man died as a result of injuries consistent with an assault.”
They continued: “If you have information, please report it online quoting incident number 68 of 15 April.”
