Police cracking down on a potential car meet in Wigan have hit the entire borough with a dispersal order.
Greater Manchester Police says it has received information about a possible car meet on Westwood Way later today (May 10).
As a result, it has issued a 24-hour dispersal order, which came into effect at midday and lasts until Sunday afternoon.
While police named only one road in the town where the car meet was expected, every part of Wigan borough is covered by the dispersal order – including Ashton-in-Makerfield, Atherton, Golborne, Hindley, Leigh, Orrell, Shevington, Standish and Tyldesley.
Throughout the borough, police will have the power to seize vehicles and prosecute motorists who are found driving dangerously, carelessly or ‘in an anti-social manner’.

“There will be a police presence to enforce the order and positive action will be taken against any individual driving dangerously, carelessly or in an anti-social manner.
“Action includes having vehicles seized and prosecution. The order gives officers additional powers to deal with anti-social behaviour.
“Officers can issue persons a notice to leave the area immediately. Failure to comply with the notice can lead to arrest.”
