The show, currently being staged at the Liverpool theatre, has reportedly had repeat technical issues throughout its UK run
The Liverpool Empire theatre is hosting Legally Blonde this week
A Liverpool Empire theatre show was stopped during a performance as fans claim the show is “cursed”. Legally Blonde, the award-winning musical based on the iconic 2001 film, arrived in the city earlier this week.
Running until tomorrow, Saturday, April 18, the musical has taken over the theatre stage for a number of days, bringing with it an incredible cast and original music. The musical follows Elle Woods on her transformation from fashionista to legal expert at Harvard Law School as she tries to win back her ex-boyfriend.
The film of the same name starred Reese Witherspoon and became a huge hit. Strictly Come Dancing and Love Island star Amber Davies stars at Elle Woods.
The theatre star recently originated the role of Jordan Baker in the London production of The Great Gatsby, starred as Vivian Ward in the UK tour of Pretty Woman, Lorraine Baines in the West End production of Back to the Future The Musical and Campbell in Bring It On at London’s South Bank Centre.

However, during the Thursday, April 16 performance, the show was stopped because of technical difficulties. A video posted to TikTok shows a man on stage telling the audience: “Good evening everyone, we are having very difficult problems with the sound system. The system has gone down, and we are still trying to fix it.
“We are very close to the end of the performance and want you to see that so please give us a few moments as we try and resolve this.” The video ended with a round of applause from the audience.
The ECHO reached out to the Liverpool Empire Theatre for further information. A spokesperson said: “There was a show stop towards the end of the sold-out evening performance of Legally Blonde on Thursday, April 16 due to a temporary technical fault in the sound system.
“An announcement was made to patrons from the stage by the company manager and the show resumed a short time later with no further issues. The Empire Theatre looks forward to this weekend’s performances of Legally Blonde, which is receiving enthusiastic feedback and standing ovations.”
Leading lady Amber, and subsequently the musical, has been at the heart of a lot of conversations online over the past year. Last month, she took a few days away from the show to focus on her health, with Hannah Lowther taking on her role.

Amber soon realised people online had a lot to say about her absence, with some questioning if she should continue the show. ECHO reporter Holly Clarke reviewed the show on a different night (Monday, April 13) from the technical difficulties and said what she saw Amber do on the stage at the theatre showcased the true “powerhouse” she is.
Despite this, the comments on the original TikTok posted left fans with a different opinion. One person wrote: “Is this show cursed or something?” Another said: “Right, who said Macbeth before this tour started?” And a third commented: “Did they fix it? I was there but had to leave to get a train?”
A separate comment said: “Legally cursed.” While another fan claimed: “This happened in Glasgow opening night too.” Someone else added: “There was a show stop two minutes into the show on Southampton opening night as the lights just didn’t come on and they were singing in the dark.”
