A violent child rapist who sexually tortured one of his victims was expected to die in prison – and he did. Pensioner Glyn Thomas ruthlessly exploited two girls for his own cruel sexual desires, even forcing one to mimic scenes from his porn collection so he could live out his vile fantasies.

Dishevelled Thomas’ crimes were described as “truly horrifying”, with a sentencing judge slamming the arrogant abuser who subjected his victims to “further depravities” for his own satisfaction. Then aged 68, he was sentenced to 19 years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court in October 2017.

His counsel told the court that the pervert was “much older than his chronological age” because of a “life-limiting illness”. Thomas, expected to never set foot outside a prison again, died of pneumonia on November 23, 2025 at HMP Holme House aged 76.

A probe was carried out by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO), which investigates every death in custody. And in a report published by this week, ombudsman Adrian Usher confirmed an inquest in December had concluded Thomas died of natural causes.

Mr Usher said: “NHS England commissioned an independent clinical reviewer to review Mr Thomas’s clinical care at HMP Holme House. The clinical reviewer concluded that the clinical care Mr Thomas received at Holme House was of a good standard and equivalent to that which he could have expected to receive in the community.

“She made no recommendations. The PPO investigator investigated the non-clinical issues relating to Mr Thomas’s care. We did not find any non-clinical issues of concern. We make no recommendations.

“We shared our initial report with HMPPS and the prison’s healthcare provider, Spectrum Community Health CIC. They found no factual inaccuracies.”

Thomas was convicted of 11 counts of rape, six counts of indecent assault, five counts of sexual assault and two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity in relation to one victim. He was convicted of two counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual assault in relation to the second.

The court heard both victims, who were women at the time of Thomas’s sentencing, had contacted police about him in 2015. Neither had known of the other’s suffering.

One victim said she had been “petrified” of Thomas, who manipulated her into performing sex acts and letting him rape her. She said she did not tell anyone because he repeatedly told her no one would believe her. When she finally said “no” the woman described how she was “battered”.

The prosecution told the court: “[Thomas] punched her to the back of the head and she went to the floor. She soon gave up resisting.” The woman said he made her watch porn DVDs, adding: “If I didn’t watch them, he’d tilt my head to make me watch them.”

The court heard “another aspect of the defendant’s perversity was the use of objects to inflict deliberate pain”. The victim also told police Thomas attempted to make money out of renting her to his friends for sex.

The second victim said she too had been sexually molested. She said Thomas repeatedly touched her breasts, under the pretence he was checking for lumps.

During the trial Thomas, of Bromsgrove Road in Greasby, accused the victims of being “compulsive liars” who had made the allegations through spite.

He claimed he had not had sex for 21 years and was not interested in it. Under questioning he told the jury: “All I want to do now is get clear of this, that I have not done, and go home to bed and not wake up one night. I’ve got no future.”
