A recount is now underway following the Barton and Winton by-election today (Wednesday, April 22) and we’re expecting a result shortly.
Six candidates are standing for the seat in the ward, which is in the Salford City Council area.
The council confirmed counting had finished at around 11.50pm on Wednesday, however it is close and a recount is now underway.

There were 1,941 votes cast in the by-election, a turnout of 17.82%.
The candidates standing in the Barton and Winton byelection are: Kirsty Anne Downie (IND); Antony Ian Duke (LIB DEM); Michael James Felse (REFORM); Catherine Goodyer (LAB); Jack Groom (GREEN); and Holly Ann Muldoon (CON).
The by-election – which comes just under two weeks before Barton and Winton residents head to the polls again to take part in the May 7 Local Elections – was called to elect a new councillor following the death of England’s longest serving councillor David Lancaster.
