Jay Stansfield is looking forward to a break after a slog of a season with Birmingham City back in the Championship.
The striker ended his 13-game goal drought to score in Wednesday’s win over Preston and now has double figures in the Championship.
Stansfield has 11 goals in all competitions, plus seven assists, making this another productive season for the 23-year-old – but it hasn’t gone as he hoped it would.

“This season has been up and down for me,” Stansfield told BBC WM. “I had a long summer with the Euros but I wanted to be back as soon as possible to help the team.
“It’s been a long season for me personally and I’ve not scored the goals I wanted to score, but I’ve made sure I’ve gone out when times have been tough and stuck my chest out and got on with it.
“I can’t thank the manager enough for still having faith in me being able to deliver in different ways. A goal fell for me and hopefully I can get a few more.”
The point Stansfield makes about last summer is often overlooked. Due to his participation in a successful European Championships for England under-21s last summer, Stansfield played 52 games across 2024/25 and continued to train throughout the summer.
He started Blues’ first pre-season friendly against Sevilla out in Portugal and has played another 45 games this season, including 39 starts in the Championship – Chris Davies has only used Tomoki Iwata and Christoph Klarer more.
Stansfield will get a well-earned rest this summer before reporting for pre-season and attacking the new campaign.
He added: “Other teams that get promoted from League One to the Championship would settle for staying in the Championship.
“There’s obviously a lot of ambition. We wanted to get promoted but we’re moving in the right direction and we can go again next season.
“This season has been a good learning curve and we all know how to play the Championship now.”
