The Duke of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal are both planning tours of Scotland in the coming weeks, according to the Royal Diary. Engagements are published up to eight weeks in advance.

Prince Edward is heading to the north-east for three days from April 27-29, including a visit to Gordonstoun School in Elgin where he and his two brothers – King Charles and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor – were educated, following in the family tradition.

Also on April 29, he’s due in Glasgow to attend the unveiling of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games medal. Meanwhile, Princess Anne will be in Scotland next month.

Her tour of the west Highlands includes a stop at Cruachan Power Station to mark the 60th anniversary of the hydroelectric station installed in a colossal cavern inside Ben Cruachan.

The King and Queen Camilla each have only two engagements planned – the controversial State Visit to the United States of America from April 27-30 to mark the 250th anniversary of American Independence.

As if that wasn’t contentious enough (celebrating a revolutionary war with Great Britain which saw George III, the 4th-great grandfather of Charles II, lose his North American colonies), the couple must also contend with US President Donald Trump.

After that, they are off to pay a Royal Visit to Bermuda until May 2. Not for the first time, the heir to the throne and his wife – Prince William and Princess Catherine – have no engagements booked in, according to the diary.
