Fresh plans to transform the former HSBC Bank building in Pudsey into five one-bedroom flats have been submitted to Leeds City Council.

Applicant Mohammed Abbas, of REF79 Ltd, has submitted the proposals, for the Church Lane building, which has been empty empty since it closed its doors in October 2020.

A letter accompanying panting the application said: “Planning policy, both national and regional, support the promotion of car free development if justification can be made on sustainability grounds and access to public transport.

“The site is clearly located within 65m walking distance of a bus public transport hub. In addition residents can get all of their shopping within a few minutes of walking of the site.

“The proximity of the site to a bus public transport interchange, services and facilities is enough justification for the planning authority to approve the development proposal especially when a cycle locker for the residents to use will be provided. Further to this any new tenants will be made aware that there is no car parking available in the area.”

The building has been the subject of a number of previous planning applications for residential and a hot food takeaway.

The latest proposals – which would change the use of the building from commercial to five dwellinghouses can be viewed in full here.
