A powerhouse comedy line-up hits Bristol Hippodrome to raise laughs and vital funds for charity

Some of Britain’s biggest names in comedy will share the stage at the Bristol Hippodrome this September in support of a local charity helping people affected by eating disorders.

The one-night-only event on Monday, September 29 will raise funds for SWEDA, which provides support across Bristol and the South West. The line-up includes Taskmaster favourites James Acaster, Nish Kumar and Jenny Eclair, alongside Bristol-born comedian Jayde Adams. They will be joined by Stuart Goldsmith and Amy Annette.

With increasing demand for support services, the charity hopes the high-profile billing will shine a light on the work it does and help generate much-needed funds to expand its outreach.

Gavin Osborn, fundraising manager at SWEDA, said: “We are thrilled to have such a fantastic line-up for a night at the Hippodrome, as we’re determined to make people more aware of what SWEDA do and how they can help.

“The fact that such household names are giving their time and talent to support us is genuinely amazing. We’re seeing rising numbers of people who need us and proceeds from the show will make a huge difference to growing our services in Bristol and across the region.”

Founded in 1992, SWEDA supports over 1,000 people every year, offering counselling, one-to-one support, nutritional guidance and a 12-week recovery programme. It also runs a dedicated service for children and young people aged between four and 18.

The show, titled Laughing Matters , takes its name from the charity’s belief in the power of comedy to unite people and raise awareness of serious issues. The comedians involved bring impressive credentials, with Acaster’s last UK tour selling out in five minutes, Kumar known for The Mash Report and appearances on Question Time, and Eclair being the first woman to win the Perrier Award.

Jayde Adams, star of Strictly Come Dancing and ITV’s Ruby Speaking, returns to her home city for the event. She was previously recognised as the third funniest woman in the world by Dawn French.

Tickets are priced at £38.50 and are available via ATG Tickets.
