St Patrick’s High School in Keady enjoyed a visit from both the Sam Maguire – Gaelic football’s highest achievement – and golf’s coveted prize, the Claret Jug.
The latter has been making its way across golf clubs and communities throughout the island of Ireland as part of a ‘The Road to The Open’ initiative.
The two-week tour, which began last month at an event in Newtownards, Co Down, has seen the Golf Champion trophy visit clubs and groups across the country, ahead of The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush in July.

It is the trophy presented to the winner of The Open – one of the four major championships in worldwide golf.
The Claret Jug has been visiting clubs and communities within counties Down, Dublin, Kildare, Offaly, Roscommon, Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, Limerick, Galway, Mayo, Armagh, Antrim and Donegal during its journey around the island.
The Sam Maguire is awarded annually to the senior men’s Gaelic football team that wins the All-Ireland.
Last year, the accolade went to Armagh, and so it was fitting for St Patrick’s to have Sam in attendance on Thursday too.
SDLP MLA and former 2002 All-Ireland winner with Armagh, Justin McNulty, posted to social media: “When Sam Maguire and the Claret Jug ⛳️ come to your school on the same day #TheOpen #GAABelong”
The school also shared to Facebook that it was “a historic day”.
