Underworld assassination of “The Iceman”
Murder victim Frank McPhie
It was one of the most chilling murders that Scotland has seen – a man assassinated on his own doorstep by a sniper’s bullet. Father of four Frank McPhie was returning home around 9pm to spend the rest of the evening with his family.
As the 51-year-old approached the entrance to his ground floor flat in Guthrie Street in Glasgow’s Maryhill a shot rang out killing him with a bullet through the head. The gunman, situated on the flat concrete roof of a neighbouring eight floor block of flats, normally used as a drying area, had opened fire taking aim through the weapon’s telescopic sight.
McPhie’s 11-year-old son had been playing nearby and saw his dad fall to the ground. The victim’s wife hearing the shot rushed from their ground floor flat to try and help her husband. The killer left behind the Czech-made ACZ Brno rifle used to kill McPhie and is thought to have walked calmly away from the scene.
Police quickly hit a wall of silence during their investigation into McPhie’s murder with little evidence and few witnesses. Despite a suspect appearing in court, the charges were dropped and the man was never prosecuted. McPhie’s murder remains unsolved.

The Daniel crime family
Steven ‘Bonzo’ Daniel
One of Scotland’s most dangerous gangs, the Daniel clan have controlled drug networks in the north of Glasgow for decades. A bitter feud with new kids on the block, the Lyons family, escalated into decades of murders, shootings and stabbings.
Most recently, Daniel crime clan mum Aileen had her motorhome torched as her family was targeted on their Possilpark home turf. The 44-year-old ex-pole dancer is the daughter of Norman Daniel, who built up a multi-million pound dirty cash empire with his late brother Jamie.
The attack on Aileen’s motorhome took place on April 6 just weeks after rival crime boss Steven Lyons was arrested on an Interpol Red Notice in Bali. So who are the Daniel clan? The Record takes a look at the history of the crime group and the family tree.

Glasgow city centre ‘stabbing’
Two men have been charged following an alleged “stabbing” in Glasgow city centre. Emergency services were called to Mitchell Street after the alarm was raised at around 9.40pm on Friday, April 27.
Police were responding to reports of a disturbance and a large cordon was thrown up on the street, which houses a number of bars as well as an adult entertainment club. A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with an assault.
Ambulance crews attended and a 22-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. The man was then arrested and charged in connection with possession of a knife. His condition is currently unknown.

“Would Sturgeon share cell with a man?”
Former First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon
An ex-con claims the trans prisoner “mess” would never have happened if Nicola Sturgeon had experienced her own jail time alongside a biological male.
Jayney Sutherley spoke out after police charged Alex Stewart, a biological male, with sexually assaulting a woman prisoner at HMP Greenock. Hairdresser Sutherley – who killed a man with a pair of scissors – has backed calls for the immediate transfer of all trans prisoners from the women’s estate.
Sutherley spoke out after she was released from Greenock prison and a year after facing claims in the town’s sheriff court that she’d “misgendered” Stewart, 38. She was cleared but the trial meant she was denied parole, leading to a longer jail term.

Man injured in Greenock

A man has been found injured in Greenock just days after armed cops swooped on an incident on the same street. Emergency services were called to John Wilson Street after the alarm was raised at around 7.50pm on Friday, April 24.
Officers were responding to reports of an injured man being discovered in the area. Ambulance crews attended and he was rushed to hospital for treatment. The condition of the man and the circumstances surrounding how he sustained the injuries is currently unknown.
A picture shared with the Record showed the street cordoned off with uniformed cops at the scene. Police enquiries remain ongoing.
It comes after five people were arrested and a man was injured following a separate incident on the same street last Saturday, April 18.
