Spring is in the air, and so is another exciting lunation!
Nicknamed the Flower Moon, this month’s full moon rises on May 12 at 9:55 a.m. PT. While this exact time marks its peak, the moon will appear full as early as May 9 and start to wane around May 16.
This time span is notable not only astronomically, but also astrologically as its effects will be significantly felt within each of us regardless of our zodiac signs. This lunation’s cosmic energy will radiate in the weeks surrounding its peak.
May’s full moon sits in Scorpio (12 degrees), meaning the themes associated with this Water sign — such as intimacy, sexuality, the shadow self and the occult — will be “thrust upon the global stage,” celebrity astrologer Kyle Thomas tells PEOPLE exclusively.
“Full moons in Scorpio bring great attention to how we share resources in our lives and within the world,” he puts forth. “Striking a balance between what we give and receive will be extremely important and any imbalances within these themes will be tremendously important to face.”
Thomas adds, “Investments, assets, and large money matters will be rocked by this full moon.”

There are several astrological aspects coloring this lunation due to planetary formation, including the moon’s opposition with Uranus. “This means chaos, sudden surprises and random twists of fate are likely to pop up near this time,” he says.
“Some people could win big, while others end on the losing side. We must beware of impulsivity, accidents, recklessness and breakdowns,” he explains. “People will be emotionally on edge because of this and we could feel quite triggered.”
May’s full moon is in a distant applying aspect to both Saturn (the planet of strength) and Neptune (the planet of spirituality), which Thomas says “should aid some of us in trying to find a cool, calm, and sensitive approach to handling whatever pops up.”
Meanwhile, Pluto (the planetary ruler of this lunation) will be aligned with various planets yet directly square Mercury, which Thomas predicts “could cause power struggles or intensity around the mind and communications.”
The co-ruler of this lunation is Mars, which will be in a perfect trine with Venus. “If we focus on leading with love in regard to relationships, pleasure, joy and romance, we will likely enjoy this time very much,” he shares.

Partnerships are dancing in the moonlight, Aries. “May’s lunation will bring intense awareness to how you share, give and receive in your important relationships,” predicts Thomas.
“This may luckily make your union stronger if you’re on steady ground, but it could also bring friction if things are not on the same page,” he shares. “You could hear news of a large settlement, payout, scholarship or inheritance.”
