Overturned lorry causing Belfast delaysAn overturned skip lorry on Bridge End, at the Railway Bridge heading towards M3 Bridge and Queens Bridge, is affecting traffic in Belfast. The lorry is understood to have hit the railway bridge just past the Maxol Station.
There are knock-on delays approaching from east Belfast on the Lower Newtownards Road and Short Strand, Albertbridge Road and Ravenhill Road.
A recovery operation is due to commence shortly to remove the skip from under the railway bridge using two cranes that may require the road to be closed again.
Police and the Fire Service are responding. A PSNI spokesperson said: “Delays are likely in the Bridge End area of the city centre this morning due to an overturned lorry. Two lanes are blocked and traffic is building in the area.
“The road is closed towards Ravenhill Road and at the junction of Albertbridge Road.”
Traffic from Newtownards Road into town is being diverted left onto the Short Strand towards Albertbridge/Ravenhill Road junction. East Belfast traffic should use Albert Bridge/East Bridge Street to get into the city centre.
