South Parish Church site at Baird Hill
Plans have been submitted to transform a derelict church site into social housing for East Kilbride Housing Association.
Wilson Developments Ltd has lodged an application to redevelop the former South Parish Church site at Baird Hill, which has been in a state of disrepair since closing in January 2024 due to building condition issues.
The proposal would deliver 36 apartments as social housing for East Kilbride Housing Association, providing affordable homes aimed at meeting local need. The development would consist of two four-storey blocks, offering a mix of one- and two-bedroom properties designed in line with the housing association’s requirements.

The plans will turn the currently derelict site into a modern residential environment, designed to reflect the surrounding streetscape while creating a high-quality place to live. The scheme also includes landscaped amenity space at ground level, secure cycle storage for all residents and 38 car parking spaces.
The project has been designed in accordance with national and local planning policies, including National Planning Framework 4 and the South Lanarkshire Local Development Plan.
The site is close to East Kilbride Shopping Centre and benefits from strong transport links. Bus stops on Queensway, Murrayhill and The Murray Road connect the area across East Kilbride and beyond, while the bus station is around a 16-minute walk. East Kilbride Train Station, which has frequent services to Glasgow Central, can be reached in approximately 27 minutes by walking.
