A significant fire has erupted in a seaside town, sending thick black smoke pouring into the sky and causing disruption on surrounding roads.
Emergency services were alerted earlier today to the incident on Dock Road, Port Talbot in Wales, with police confirming they had received numerous reports of a substantial blaze.
Firefighters from across the region are currently battling a major industrial fire at Dock Road in Port Talbot.
At 3.36pm on Wednesday, April 29, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews were dispatched to the scene. Teams from Port Talbot, Neath, Morriston, Ammanford, Tumble, Carmarthen, Pontarddulais and Glynneath fire stations responded to the incident.
Eyewitnesses described seeing enormous plumes of black smoke rising several metres into the air, spreading across the surrounding area and visible from as far away as Mumbles. As a precautionary measure, residents living in the vicinity have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to the dense smoke. Officials have also urged members of the public to stay away from the area in order to allow emergency services unobstructed access while crews continue to tackle the fire.
The incident is also causing significant traffic disruption, with slow-moving vehicles reported on the M4 in both directions between Junction 41 at the A48 Pentyla-Baglan Road (Baglan/Pentyla) and Junction 40 at the A4107 Tanygroes Street. Smoke drifting across the carriageway is thought to be responsible for the delays, and motorists are being advised to exercise caution.
Authorities have confirmed the situation remains ongoing and are appealing for patience while emergency services continue to tackle the blaze.
