Before his marriage to Queen Camilla, King Charles was married to the late Princess Diana. The pair married in 1981, but divorced in 1996 following a number of affairsDiana and CamillaQueen Camilla had an affair with King Charles when he was married to Princess Diana

Princess Diana once revealed who she blamed for the breakdown of her marriage to King Charles.

The pair married on July 29, 1981, when Diana was 20 and Charles was 32. Their relationship was plagued by a number of issues including communication breakdowns and emotional turmoil. Both the King and the late Princess of Wales admitted to having affairs and the pair eventually divorced, with their split being finalized in 1996.

Charles infamously had an affair with the now-Queen Camilla, while Diana cheated on Charles with James Hewitt. Royal expert Ingrid Seward was friends with Diana and revealed she spoke to her about the breakdown of her marriage shortly before her death.

Speaking about who Diana blamed for her marriage ending, Seward revealed, “She said to me just before she died, it wasn’t Camilla. ‘It wasn’t Camilla that ruined our marriage, it was the people around Charles.”

During an appearance on A Right Royal Podcast, the author admitted she had never been able to “unpick that comment and quite understand what it meant.” However, she added, “But I also remember Diana’s father saying how tricky the royal household was.”

Seward likened Diana’s concerns to those of her son Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex recently spoke to the BBC about the royal family and has previously criticized his relatives on Netflix and in his memoir, Spare.

Seward explained, “What I’m trying to say is that Harry obviously has a point amid his morass of complaints. He does have some valid points, and I’m riveted.”

Considering both Harry and Diana’s worries, she questioned, “Are they just a load of overinflated egos in the royal household, or are they really trying to help?” Elsewhere in the episode, Seward suggested Diana would have been proud of her son’s bombshell BBC interview.

During the chat, Harry revealed he is not currently in communication with King Charles and is unsure of how much time he has left. Harry then said he hopes to one day reunite with the royal family.

Seward explained, “I think she might have been proud, ‘I’m glad you said what you thought.'” She continued, “I think she would, I’m guessing, that she might have been quite proud of him for speaking up and saying what he thought, because that’s what she liked. She liked to say exactly what she thought and then deal with the consequences afterwards, which is, of course, what happened to her.”

Indeed, Diana had her own bombshell interview moment when she sat down with Panorama. During the interview, she spoke about the state of her marriage with Charles and opened up about his affair with the now-Queen Camilla.

“There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” Diana revealed. She also opened up about her own affair with James Hewitt and spoke about her mental health struggles.
