A cheer-leading club hopes to turn a former industrial unit into a community sports centre.
White Rose Cheer is seeking planning permission for the conversion of a vacant building at Royds Farm Road, off Gelderd Road, LS12.
The organisation, which takes part in competitive cheer-leading events, would create a training space and reception area at the site.
A planning report said the scheme would provide youth and activities and promote healthy lifestyles in the south Leeds community.
It said: “The proposal represents a positive reuse of an existing building and will provide a valuable indoor cheer-leading and sports facility.”
Activities at the new centre would be indoor-only and measures would be in place to control noise, the report said.
Jobs would be created at the site, which was no longer needed as an industrial facility.
The report said: “It brings the site back into productive use, supporting employment through coaching, administration, and facility management roles.”
Cycle stands and a staff parking area would be provided as part of the development.
The report said: “The proposal is primarily intended to serve the local catchment area, with users expected from the local vicinity rather than Leeds city centre.
“The site is accessible by sustainable transport modes including walking and local bus services within reasonable walking distance.”
Leeds City Council is considering a change-of-use planning application which is out for consultation until May 19.
