Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has dropped a major hint that he could be back from injury sooner than expected ahead of the clash with Manchester United this weekend, despite concerns that his time at the club was drawing to a close. The Egyptian limped off during the Reds’ victory over Crystal Palace, casting serious doubt over whether he would feature again this campaign.

Had he been ruled out for the rest of the season, it would have brought a premature end to his Liverpool career, given he has already confirmed he will be departing the club when his contract expires.

However, Salah took to social media to post pictures of himself in training ahead of the showdown with Manchester United this weekend, while Arne Slot confirmed the injury was nothing more than a minor setback.

The Egyptian shared footage of himself out on the pitch at the AXA Training Ground, suggesting his injury may not be as serious as initially feared.

Slot remained tight-lipped over Salah’s fitness, though did concede the forward would play no part in the matchday squad against Manchester United.

The Reds boss said: “He is always working incredibly hard when he is injured to get back as soon as possible.

“Usually, he is back earlier than other players. He has a minor injury, and we expect and need him back for the final part of the season, but not for Sunday [vs Man Utd].”

Liverpool are also expected to be without their first-choice keeper Alisson for the clash at Old Trafford, with the Brazilian still sidelined through injury.

“Ali hasn’t trained with us yet,” Slot revealed. “[He is] very close… I have to hear today from the medical staff if he is able to train today or tomorrow.

“Otherwise, the start of next week. He is very close, but of course, we don’t want to take any risks.”

Liverpool face Man United on Sunday, May 3 with kick-off scheduled for 3:30pm at Old Trafford.
