With first rehearsals having commenced today in Vienna, ERT has revealed details of what viewers can expect from Akylas’ performance.

Greece were one of seven nations who had their first rehearsal for the 70th Eurovision Song Contest today in Vienna. With images set to be released tomorrow, ERT has released a description of what viewers can expect from Akylas and “Ferto”:

“Akylas, on the Eurovision stage, in the context of a video game and in a humorous and dynamic way , meets four characters (Parthena Chorozidou, Christos Nikolaou, Michalis Michailidis, Konstantinos Makripidis). Then, as a transgression, the representative of Greece, coming out of character, removes his glasses and addresses his mother at an intensely emotional point in the presentation.”

The delegation is reportedly happy with the first rehearsal, with the performance meeting their expectations. The creative team for the Greek performance is formed of: Christos Maganas (video artist), Yannis Mourikis (set designer), George Tellos (light designer), Philippos Missas (costume designer for Akylas) and George Segredakis (costume designer for the four characters).”

Akylas will represent Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. He will compete in fourth in the first semi-final on May 12.

Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest+

Greece debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, when they were represented by Marinella and the song “Krasi, thalassa kai t’agori mou”, which finished in 11th place with 7 points. Three years later, Greece earned their first top 5 finish with Paschalis, Marianna, Robert, and Bessy, who finished in 5th place with “Mathima solfege”. In 2001, Greece achieved their first top 3 placing with Antique and the song “I Would Die For You”. The song became a European hit and charted across the continent. In 2005, Helena Paparizou returned to the Eurovision stage as a solo artist and brought Greece their first, and to date only, victory. Her song “My Number One” won with 230 points, beating runners-up Malta by 38 points.
