The response was considered necessary given the height and size of the mixed apartment and office buildings.

Fire engines respond to alarm on Morrison Street

Five fire engines rushed to a fire alarm on Morrison Street this afternoon

The fire alarm was received by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service just before 5pm on Sunday.

And due to the nature of the buildings they immediately sent out four fire engines and an aerial appliance.

It is understood firefighters were sent in to searching the buildings to discover the cause of the alarm. It was then discovered to have been a false alarm.

The building houses a mix of offices and residential homes.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the response was appropriate given the nature of the multi-storey buildings.

It is understood only two fire engines remained on the scene shortly after the call, with the area now cleared.

The b-listed buildings date back to 1933 and were designed as a warehouse for the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society.
