Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street is planning Megan Walsh’s downfall after she avoided a grisly death in the show’s murder episodes.

The evil predator was among five characters who were signposted as possible victims in the ITV soap’s big new whodunit plot, but ultimately it was Theo Silverton who lost his life in Friday night’s episode (1 May).

As show bosses are still keen for Megan to get her comeuppance, forthcoming episodes will explore a different path to justice.

Corrie’s cast and crew have been spotted filming courtroom scenes, so is there a chance that Megan will stand trial and go to jail for grooming Will Driscoll?

Speaking to Digital Spy during a recent press event, Corrie’s producer Kate Brooks explained: “There’s a bit of a journey to go on with that story. Obviously Megan has been exposed, but at this point, Will believes it was love and all genuine.

“Scales fall from his eyes and Tim’s going to be so instrumental in making him realise what’s gone on and how unacceptable and wrong it was.”

“It’s about the Driscoll family falling apart, but then building themselves back up again as they desperately try to repair the damage that Megan has done,” Brooks continued. “Obviously there are the laws of the soap gods, so there’ll be some kind of retribution for Megan. She cannot get off scot-free.

“We will go down the proper channels. Whether it goes to plan or not, I cannot say, but it goes down a very big path.”

Upcoming scenes will also delve deeper into how Megan’s actions haven’t just affected Will and the Driscolls, but the wider community too.

Sam Blakeman remains traumatised after Megan manipulated him for weeks in a shameless bid to protect her secret.

Daniel Osbourne is also struggling to move on – feeling duped after Megan used their relationship to cover her tracks.

“Having Sam involved in the Megan story, with him becoming another victim of her manipulation, felt like a really interesting way of telling the story,” Brooks noted. “His mental health has been really damaged by everything that has happened – by the manipulation, by the fact that he wasn’t believed, by the fear that he felt every time he was with Megan.

“We’re going to tell a big mental health story with Sam. He’s going to really struggle over the course of spring and early summer. It’s about his family realising, hopefully before it’s too late, that he’s in desperate need of help and he’s really vulnerable.

“With Daniel, he thought he’d met somebody who was on the same page as a teacher. Megan was apparently respectable and Daniel has been completely duped by her. It completely makes him unravel.

“Rob Mallard, who plays Daniel, is such a phenomenal actor. We’ll see Daniel slowly start to lose it, because he’s wondering who to trust. He’s been bitten so badly by this relationship.

“As Daniel was the one who defended Megan at first as well, he feels like he’s let Will down and Bertie down. We’re really going to chart the impact she’s had on him and his life – and his attitude to relationships going forward.

“Will is also going to be quite badly affected by what he’s been through with Megan. It does go a bit dark as well.”

Coronation Street has worked on Will and Megan’s grooming storyline with support from Barnardo’s. Support and information is available via the charity’s website.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
