Police have taped off a busy city centre road due to a ‘serious incident’.

Emergency services have raced to a scene in Birmingham city centre this evening (Sunday) after reports of a person ‘falling’ multiple floors in a building, believed to be inside the Henman & Cooper, a bar with a rooftop terrace.

West Midlands Police said it was responding to an incident earlier this evening on Colmore Row. Birmingham Live reports emergency workers on the scene appeared to be holding material to conceal the incident.

Several police cars and three ambulances were in attendance near to where the pedestrianised area begins close to Council House.

The force has confirmed in a statement it was responding to calls a man suffered a major fall within a building on the street who is in hospital with serious injuries.

An eyewitness, who was drinking in a bar nearby, told the publication she was “overwhelmed” by how quickly emergency services flooded the street.

“I heard pretty soon that a man had been hurt. It looked so serious.

“I just hope he’s gonna be okay. You’d think he was just out enjoying himself so it’s a bit mad.”

Police have since scaled back the incident this evening but officers can be seen within the vicinity of the bar, where police tape runs across. Revellers have been turned away by cops this evening.

In a statement, the force said: “We’re currently in Colmore Row Birmingham city centre, after a man is understood to have fallen a number of floors within a building.

“He has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“We’re currently at the scene with emergency service colleagues as we seek to establish the full circumstances.”
