A huge police response “swarmed” a block of flats in Wirral this afternoon. Residents told the ECHO a “large police presence” descended on Ward Grove in Rock Ferry, today, Monday, May 4, with the ECHO first being made aware of it around 3.03pm
One person said there were armed officers in attendance as well as at least ten police vans and cars. A second person said she was on her way to work when she saw Matrix police officers armed with guns “swarming the flats”.
A Merseyside Police force incident manager told the ECHO officers were responding to a concern for safety inside the flats. The senior officer confirmed no person had been arrested or detained.
When the ECHO arrived at the scene one police van remained parked outside the flats on Ward Grove, which is made up of a series of blocks of flats with interconnecting paths, car parks and green spaces.
One person, living next door to the flats said around six police cars and vans swarmed the area at around 3pm.
Officers were seen focusing on the flats. “Most” police officers left shortly after.
Other residents also reported seeing police, but didn’t know what officers were responding to.
One person claimed police had been in the area earlier on Monday, in relation to a separate incident.
