Tom Cruise is in London to receive the honorary BFI Fellowship. On his trip, however, he appears to have made time for a leisurely stroll up one of the city’s most iconic buildings.
On Sunday afternoon, the Mission: Impossible actor was photographed on the roof of the BFI IMAX building in London. It’s unclear how exactly the actor scaled up the roof, but we’ve confirmed with sources close to Cruise that it was indeed him.
From the footage, which you can view below, you can see the BFI IMAX building is currently wrapped in an advertisement for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Paramount Pictures will launch the eighth installment in the franchise in the U.S. on May 23. Before that, Cruise will debut the film in Cannes next week. The movie will play Out of Competition on May 14 with Cruise, director Christopher McQuarrie, and the cast walking the famous red carpet. Will Cruise give us a similar stunt on the Croisette? Perhaps a wave from the roof of the Grand Palais? We’ll have to wait and see.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning sees Cruise reunite with McQuarrie from a screenplay he wrote with Erik Jendresen. Cruise stars with Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Mariela Garriga, and Angela Bassett.
In the movie, Cruise’s Ethan Hunt must face his most dangerous enemy yet in the form of an AI known as the Entity. The pic rounds out the plot set up in the previous film, with Hunt now in possession of the key necessary to defeat the Entity. Before he can do that, he must collect his team to find the sunken Russian submarine that houses the source code needed to destroy the technology.
Cruise will receive the BFI Fellowship on Monday. Previous Fellowship honorees include Spike Lee, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, Satyajit Ray, Tilda Swinton, David Lean, Steve McQueen, Orson Welles, and Ridley Scott.
This evening, the veteran actor gave a lengthy career Q&A at the BFI. Read our coverage of the session here.
