Community members, city leaders demand more answers following arrest of autistic man in London

  • 5 May 2026

LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) – The controversial arrest of a man with autism in London has led to the resignation of the officers involved and has left citizens and community leaders furious over what happened.

The incident was brought up by community members during Monday’s city council meeting.

“We’re a community, and we stand for you, and we stand here to help, and I need that from you guys. I need it from everybody here and anybody watching at home. I need that from you,” said Ryan Grey

Grey says he has an 18-year-old son with autism and that this is why he wanted to address the London mayor and council about the recent interaction officers had with an autistic man.

“What’s going to happen when the population in London grows, and we have an influx of these kids who are on the spectrum who need our kindness,” Grey said.

The London City Council also wants to take a closer look at the incident that resulted in two officers resigning and a supervisor being suspended.

On Monday, the council presented a four-page resolution requesting all documents, audio and video statements, policies and communications relating to the incident.

“That the following documents be provided, on or before 5 pm on May 15, 2026, to the city council and to its attorneys electronically,” the resolution reads.

After the resolution was read during the meeting, London Mayor Randall Weddle made a public statement that the city would no longer pay for the city council’s attorney, Larry Bryson.

The move prompted one city council member to ask for clarification.

“Your ruling that you’re not going to recognize our attorney,” said Jim Baker

Weddle said the move was moored in Kentucky state law.

“Okay, so it’s a KRS statue that says you guys cannot sign contracts,” he replied.

Council members say their goal with the resolution is to get the mayor and city attorney to cooperate in finding answers to this incident.

WKYT asked Weddle for comment after tonight’s council meeting, but he declined.
