The BAFTA TV Awards is back for another year on Sunday 11 May with celebrities flocking to Southbank’s Royal Festival Hall for the glamorous evening

The BAFTA TV Awards ceremony has commenced at the Royal Festival Hall on London’s Southbank, featuring an array of famous faces.

Nominees for this evening’s awards include Nicola Coughlan, David Tennant, and Anna Maxwell Martin, who are all competing in the best actor and performance category.

The Memorable Moment category has been generating significant interest, with popular shows such as Gavin and Stacey, Bridgerton, and Strictly Come Dancing facing off against one another.

However, mere minutes into the ceremony, which is being broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, viewers began to express their annoyance over one detail.

The show’s opening segment featured a humorous spoof of the popular series The Traitors, starring BAFTA host Alan Cumming, who also hosts the US series of The Traitors.

Nevertheless, many viewers took to Twitter (now X) to criticise the lengthy introduction, expressing their desire for the ceremony to commence so they could discover which of their favourite shows and actors would emerge victorious, reports the Express.

One person said: “Is there a reason for these naff intros? #BAFTAs”, a different account put: “Can we scrap these long drawn out intros of the presenter?#BAFTAS #Baftas2025”, another wrote: “Just get on with it….#baftas#BAFTA2025” while a different viewer added: “I like Alan Cumming but please get on with it. #BAFTA #baftas #tvbaftas #alancumming.”

Meanwhile, another show watcher said: “Get on with it for goodness sake. #baftas”, a different account put: “FFS get on with it #baftas” while another added: “Just get on with it….#baftas #BAFTA2025.”

In other news from the event, ITV is set to gain major recognition with the Bafta TV special award for their commissioned series on the post office scandal, Mr Bates Vs The Post Office.

Star of the series Toby Jones has snagged a nomination for leading actor for his portrayal of Sir Alan Bates, the principal figure in the campaign, whereas Monica Dolan has secured two nominations for her work in Mr Bates, playing Jo Hamilton and as Ann Branson in James Graham’s Sherwood.

Kirsty Wark, once at the helm of Newsnight, will be honoured with the prestigious Bafta fellowship for her remarkable contribution across news and TV.

Leading up to the big night, comedians Suzi Ruffell and Tom Allen, hosts of the Like Minded Friends podcast, will catch up with nominees strolling the red carpet.
