A pensioner has been detained after a 71-year-old woman was found dead at a property on Newfield Square in Nitshill at around 9.45pm on Saturday.

Floral tributes have been left outside a home in Glasgow with police still at the scene following the death of a woman.
A pensioner has been detained after the 71-year-old was found dead at a property on Newfield Square in Nitshill at around 9.45pm on Saturday.
Officers were responding to reports of a disturbance at a home on the street before the woman was found seriously injured.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and police have since confirmed that a 78-year-old man has been detained.

The local community have been left in shock following the incident and flowers have been left outside the property.
Local children have drawn pictures and the words “RIP Margret, we miss you” has been written in chalk on the pavement alongside a love heart and a star.
It’s understood police and ambulance crews descended onto the scene shortly before 10pm last night.
A cordon was placed near the property and officers remained stationed outside the home overnight.
One neighbour told the Record: “It’s really shocking. We just heard all the sirens at around 10pm and looked outside to see all the police outside. We knew something serious had happened straight away.

“A cordon was placed near the home, where an elderly couple stayed. No one will tell us what happened but everyone has been left in shock.”
Another neighbour added: “We don’t want to speak about what happened. It has been an emotional day for everyone here.”
A police car remained stationed outside the home on Sunday evening with a number of uniformed officers still at the scene.
The force say enquiries are at an early stage and remain ongoing. There is no risk to the wider public.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Shortly before 9.45pm on Saturday, May 10 2025 officers attended the report of a disturbance at a house in Newfield Square in Nitshill, Glasgow.
“A 71-year old woman was found seriously injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 78-year-old man has been detained and there is no risk to the wider public. Extensive enquiries, which are at an early stage, are ongoing.”
