For my money, Joe Wright’s “Pride & Prejudice” is the best adaptation of the story. The chemistry between Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen is electric, and on a technical level — the costumes, the cinematography, and the score — no other version comes close. A must for Jane Austen purists.

Admittedly, I don’t watch a lot of Bollywood movies, but they’re always a treat. “Bride & Prejudice” captures the spirit of Austen’s novel, but it’s got a really vibrant energy and more colorful visual palette to set it apart. If you’re into musicals, this is definitely the version to watch.

There’s a real charm to this Oscar-wining picture. It may be 86-years-old now, but the performances of Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson add a sparkle and wit to the film that makes it truly timeless. Personally, I don’t mind when movies stray from the source material a little bit, and this version of “Pride and Prejudice” does so by adding some good, old-fashioned comedy to proceedings.

I had a similar experience with this film as I did with “10 Things I Hate About You”, in that I thought I would find it cheesy and that the laughs would not work. I was totally wrong. This adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice” is billed as a “Latter-Day Comedy” and it certainly delivers on that front. It’s creative, fresh, and very, very sweet.
