Manchester United and Brazil midfielder Casemiro has claimed that he doesn’t have any resentment towards “bitter” Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
In 2024, Carragher famously said Casemiro should “leave the football before the football leaves you”. At that point, he was struggling after a move from Real Madrid, but the Brazilian has since turned things around and was on the winning side against Liverpool last weekend at Old Trafford.
“Everyone says whatever they want on television. I’m not someone who gets involved in that,” Casemiro, who was one of the best midfielders in the world when he played in Spain, said.

“But it’s a bit normal, because I won two Champions League titles over his team. Maybe after you win two titles against his club, there’s still some bitterness there.
“I respect his opinion. I don’t hold any resentment. The important thing is that he recognized he was wrong and changed his opinion. That’s what matters most.
“Nowadays, everyone has an opinion. Everyone wants to go viral. Everyone thinks they know football, everyone thinks they’re a star, everyone thinks they understand everything.

“Today, if you win, you’re the best and if you lose, you’re the worst. But football isn’t always like that.”
Carragher was not the only person to doubt Casemiro. Former manager Ruben Amorim cast doubt over his running power as well.
“One of the biggest achievements of my career was this comeback and changing a manager’s opinion,” the 34-year-old, speaking to TNT Sports Brasil, continued.
“He said I didn’t have the intensity. Then, later, he admitted he changed his opinion because of what he saw in training sessions and matches.

“With all humility, the easiest thing would have been to say: ‘The manager doesn’t want me? Fine. I’ve already won everything, I’ve achieved enough, let it go.’
“But no. I kept working. I kept trying to show the manager he was wrong about me. I managed to change his opinion. I ended up playing again and having a great end to the season.”
Liverpool.com says: Manchester United fans were singing for “one more year” of Casemiro at Old Trafford on Sunday. On his wages and at his age, that would be a mistake, but there is no doubt that he has turned things around well. He played well and has had a good season. It’s the right time to go out on a high.
