Lucy Haigh, winner of this year’s Race Across West Yorkshire, took part in the challenge after attending an open day at Russell House, run by Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

The hospice supported 1,075 individuals across West Yorkshire last year.

Lucy said: “I visited Russell House last year with my stepdad on an open day they had in October, and seeing what happens there—the hydrotherapy pool, the sensory room, and all the incredible facilities—was genuinely inspiring.”

She said that seeing a brick on the celebration wall with her step-brother’s name on it motivated her to get involved.

Lucy said: “I’d strongly recommend attending the hospice open day—it’s a truly memorable experience that stays with you long after.”

The hospice is holding two open days in May.

One is on Thursday, May 14, for businesses and schools, who can book a tour between 10am and 4pm.

The second is open to the public on Saturday, May 16, from 10am to 2pm without booking.

Stacey John, family support team leader, said: “It’s always a pleasure to welcome people to Russell House for the first time.”

Russell House is located on Fell Greave Road, Bradley, Huddersfield.
