Voters in Tameside have had their say in the 2026 local elections.
Seats on Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council were up for election in the wards of Ashton Hurst, Ashton St Michael’s, Ashton Waterloo, Audenshaw, Denton North East, Denton South, Denton West, Droylsden East, Droylsden West, Dukinfield, Dukinfield Stalybridge, Hyde Godley, Hyde Newton, Hyde Werneth, Longdendale, Mossley, St Peter’s, Stalybridge North, and Stalybridge South.
A total of 19 out of 57 seats were up for grabs on Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, with one councillor elected in each ward. Elections in Tameside take place three out of every four years with a third of councillors elected each time.
Tameside council is a metropolitan borough council responsible for the majority of local government services, such as education, social care, highways, planning and recycling.

Ahead of the election, Tameside Metropolitan Borough was controlled by Labour, who had 38 seats.
Polls closed at 10pm on Thursday, May 7, with the count taking place overnight. Results for the Tameside local elections are due from Friday, May 8, at 3am.
In total, more than 5,000 council seats were up for grabs across 136 local authorities in England on election day. Mayoral elections also took place in six areas.
