GenesisCare has installed a new CT scanner and radiotherapy equipment at its centre in Bristol as part of ongoing investment in cancer services across the UK.
The Australian-owned business said the upgrades would expand access to cancer treatment in the South West and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for care.
The Bristol centre has installed a Siemens SOMATOM go.Open Pro CT scanner and an Elekta Evo linear accelerator. The CT scanner is capable of capturing patient breathing and organ motion during scanning, while the radiotherapy system includes Elekta’s Iris adaptive imaging system and a HexaPOD six degrees-of-freedom couch designed to improve positioning accuracy during treatment.
GenesisCare said the equipment supports both simple and complex stereotactic ablative radiotherapy treatments, including high-dose delivery.
GenesisCare Bristol centre leader Katie Price said: ‘This investment in the latest evidence-based equipment enables patients to continue accessing the best possible treatment alongside the highest standards of care. We are proud to offer these services and committed to ensuring every patient feels supported, informed and cared for throughout their treatment journey.’
The company said it is continuing to expand its oncology network beyond its existing 14 specialist cancer centres.
Recent developments include plans for a systemic anti-cancer therapy centre in Royal Tunbridge Wells due to open in the autumn, a new systemic anti-cancer therapy centre in Guildford opening this winter, and a cancer centre in Leeds scheduled to open in December.
The Leeds centre will have a 3,250m² footprint and deliver a comprehensive range of services including haematology, advanced radiotherapy and systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT).
