Dmitry Medvedev said Germany’s new military strategy names Russia a fundamental threat and, in his view, formalizes a course toward revanche.

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said Germany’s course toward large-scale revanche after its defeat in the Second World War has become official.

In an article published on RT, Medvedev recalled that on April 22, 2026, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius presented to parliament Germany’s first-ever military strategy, titled «Responsibility for Europe.» The document identifies the Russian Federation as a fundamental threat to the «rules-based world order.»

According to Medvedev, the German strategy portrays Moscow as allegedly seeking to weaken the alliance’s unity and undermine the strength of transatlantic ties in order to expand its influence.

He said that, under this logic, attempts at dialogue with Russia are to be blocked, while military pressure on Moscow is to increase. In Medvedev’s view, this means that Germany’s course toward large-scale revanche has been made official.
