Nearly £300,000 in compensation linked to clinical negligence claims involving mental-health services has been paid out over the past decade.

A total of 17 claims were made against the Health Minister or Health Department between January 2015 and the present, with total compensation payments amounting to £290,878 over that period.

Fewer than five of the claims progressed to court through an Order of Justice, while the remainder were resolved without reaching that stage or did not proceed further.

The figures were revealed following a request made by Express under the Freedom of Information Law.

Outcomes across the cases varied, including out-of-court settlements, claims where liability was denied and subsequently discontinued, and cases that did not progress.

The claims themselves were linked to a limited range of issues, including patient discharge decisions, case management, and medication management.

The figure represents damages settlements only and does not include legal costs or any payments covered by insurers.

Due to the small number of cases, authorities declined to provide a year-by-year breakdown, citing privacy concerns and legal exemptions.

The government also withheld detailed annual compensation figures, arguing that releasing such information could risk identifying individuals involved and potentially prejudice the commercial interests of Health and Care Jersey.
