France has decided to return its ambassador to Algeria as part of a renewed push to restore “effective dialogue” between the two countries, according to a report by BFM TV citing the French presidency.

Ambassador to accompany defense official

French Ambassador Stephane Romatet will travel alongside Alice Rufo, the minister delegate at the Defense Ministry, during her visit to Algeria on Friday, the Élysée Palace confirmed. Romatet was recalled by President Emmanuel Macron in April 2025 following a diplomatic crisis that soured bilateral relations. The presidency noted that the move aligns with Macron’s goal of restoring effective dialogue with Algeria.

Türkiye’s position

Türkiye maintains strong and historically fraternal ties with Algeria, viewing North African stability as essential for regional security. Ankara continues to support diplomatic engagement between Mediterranean nations and encourages the resolution of disputes through peaceful dialogue.
