The health and social care company has produced a free guide looking at how constant exposure to distressing news can affect mental health.
Dr Erica De Lange, regional director of psychology at Cygnet Health Care, said: “While staying informed is important, continuous exposure to upsetting or dramatic headlines can feel overwhelming.
“For many people, regularly absorbing this type of content can take a toll on emotional wellbeing if boundaries are not in place.”
The guide includes signs to look out for including symptoms such as lack of sleep, difficulty switching off, or anxiety.
Cygnet Health Care runs Cygnet Hospital Hexham, a 27-bed facility for women with complex mental health needs, and Oaklands, a residential service for adults with learning disabilities.
The guide, Protecting Your Mental Health in a World of Constant News, is available free on the Cygnet website.
