Since their decision to ‘step back from Royal duties’ in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been open about the widening gap between them and the rest of the Royal Family, often referred to as The Firm.

Following this announcement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved away from the UK and have been working hard to create their own brand separate from the other Royals.

Through a series of interviews, podcasts, charitable activities, and most recently Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand and Netflix show, the couple have consistently tried to establish their own identity separate from the Royal family. However, they have faced backlash for keeping their Royal titles despite stepping back.

The latest development in the ongoing saga of the Harry-Firm rift involves Prince Harry’s current court case concerning the security he expects while in the UK.

This legal dispute sees Prince Harry trying to reverse the decision to downgrade his security since he stopped being an ‘active’ Royal. On several occasions, Harry has expressed his worries about his family’s safety, stating that this is why he does not travel to the UK with his wife and two children when he visits, according to the Mirror.

The Duke of Sussex’s request for armed police protection, which is afforded to other high-ranking members of the Royal Family, including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate, Princess of Wales, was turned down for the second time recently.

This news emerged merely days prior to Prince Harry sitting down for an intimate 30-minute conversation with the BBC, a move that has reportedly caused friction within the Royal household.

During the course of the interview, Prince Harry candidly discussed the repercussions of the ruling, describing it as ‘devastating’. Furthermore, he revealed a significant rift with his father, King Charles, stating that the monarch ‘refuses to speak with him’. The Prince also voiced uncertainty regarding the King’s remaining lifespan.

Opening up about his emotions, Prince Harry expressed: “Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things. But you know, I would love reconciliation with my family. I’ve always, there’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”

Hours after Prince Harry’s emotional BBC interview, Meghan Markle shared a poignant black-and-white family photograph on her Instagram, showcasing Prince Harry with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in the garden of their Californian home.

Buckingham Palace responded to the explosive claims, saying: “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.”

Prince Harry revealed in a BBC interview that, instead of asking King Charles to intervene, he asked his father to “step out” over a particular issue. Royal insiders claim that, along with the monarch, Prince William sees little reason to mend his relationship with Harry due to “a major trust issue”.
