Two people have been taken to hospital following a medical episode at a North East supermarket. Emergency services were called to Asda at Newcastle Shopping Park in Byker shortly after midday today.
Three ambulance crews, a specialist critical care paramedic and a clinical team leader attended the scene, alongside Northumbria Police, and the supermarket was evacuated while 999 crews responded to the incident. Northumbria Police have since confirmed that a man in his 50s has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.
The force said that at 12.15pm today (Friday) officers received a report from North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) that a man had suffered a medical episode while at a premises on Fossway in Newcastle. North East Ambulance Service later confirmed that a second patient was also taken to hospital following a medical incident.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to a medical incident in Shields Road, Newcastle, at 12.06pm this afternoon (8 May). We dispatched three ambulance crews, a specialist critical care paramedic and a clinical team leader. They transported two patients to hospital for further treatment.”
