Millions of people have cast their votes in a series of crucial local elections across the country.

The results will affect who has control over things like neighbourhood bin collections, road repairs, schooling and planning.

But, in an increasingly fragmented political environment, the outcomes could also have far-reaching consequences at a national level.

In Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, seats on 10 councils were up for grabs and counts are taking place on Friday and Saturday.

There were “all out” elections in Barnsley, Bradford, Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield – meaning all the seats will be contested.

In Leeds, Sheffield, Hull, Lincoln and North East Lincolnshire a third of seats will be decided, but tight majorities mean small shifts could significantly change the councils’ make-up.

Below are the results as they happen.
