Amid all the drama of the Championship promotion race, there’s an important summer transfer window coming up for Leeds United, who will see change no matter the outcome of their season.

Daniel Farke turned heads recently when he said Leeds United will 100% be promoted this season. Soon after those comments his side dropped down into 3rd place of the Championship table but they’re back on top now after a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough.

Farke’s comments may well come true and if they do then he and the 49ers will need to oversee a busy and well-planned summer transfer window to ensure Leeds United have what it takes to stay in the Premier League.

Already we’re seeing more and more names being linked with summer moves to Elland Road. There’s some potentially expensive names on the Whites’ radar too, with Leeds United linked with a £21million move for Tammy Abraham among other names.

But expect Leeds to make good use of the loan market and also the free agent market should they win promotion this season, with gems to be found in both markets.

One name linked with Leeds who’ll become a free agent in the summer is Bright Osayi-Samuel. The former QPR man is at Fenerbahce where he sees his contact expire in the summer, with reports that Leeds United and Crystal Palace are monitoring Osayi-Samuel‘s situation, with more teams likely keeping tabs too.

But in a rather surprising turn of events, an emerging report from BSN Sports has revealed that Fenerbahce have offered the Nigerian international a bumper new contract after holding positive talks over a renewal, with Jose Mourinho’s side set to offer Osayi-Samuel a huge pay increase on his apparent £1.8million-a-year deal.

Previous reports revealed that Osayi-Samuel wants a salary of €2.5million-per-year (£2.11million), which equates to £40,500-a-week and would make him the highest-paid player at Elland Road per current wages.

How much Leeds United tried to sign Bright Osayi-Samuel for in 2024

Osayi-Samuel’s links to Leeds United are nothing new, with the Whites having tried and failed to sign the 27-year-old last year.

In March 2024, reports revealed that Leeds United bid £7million for Osayi-Samuel. Now they have a chance to sign him for nothing which would be a huge coup for Farke, unless Mourinho’s Fenerbahce can have the last say.

All along it’s looked as though Osayi-Samuel has wanted to leave and so reports of positive talks and a new contract offer will be worrying for Leeds United, who are in a difficult position having to wait until the season is over to really push on with summer targets.
