NHS West and North London Integrated Care Board (ICB) has teamed up with the others across the capital on a new campaign.
Unused medicines are estimated to cost the NHS around £300 million each year.
A large amount of waste comes from repeat prescriptions, often when patients continue to order medicines they no longer need or already have enough of at home.
Patients are encouraged to check what they have at home first, as only ordering what you need:
- helps keep you safe, as medicines can go out of date
- helps prevent shortages, so medicines are available for everyone
- reduces waste and protects the environment
Unused medicines can be returned to pharmacies for safe disposal.
GP practices, pharmacies and community groups will be sharing tips and support throughout the campaign.
Further information is available from local pharmacies.
